Job Description

We have a position for a Part Time Trackwork Rider to join our Crown Lodge operation, located in Warwick Farm, Sydney.
Crown Lodge is the home of Godolphin’s two-year old’s, based at Warwick Farm Racetrack. Starting from their breaking prep, we take them right through to the trials and onto the races, playing a key role in developing their education and ensuring that they are as prepared as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparation of horses for trackwork, including grooming and checking shoes and general health of horse and correct selection of gear in addition to carrying out post track work procedures.
Safe control and riding of horses at stables, track work and public environments, in accordance with track rules and industry etiquette for slow and fast work.
Routine track work riding, including pace work and gallops in accordance with instructions, including evaluating and reporting the performance identifying concerns or issues of significance.
Responsible for appropriate warm up and cool down of horses from exercise and pace work, assessing hazards and risks and using judgement as required.
Monitor fitness of horses during exercise and post exercise recovery recognizing factor’s that affect horse’s movement and fitness, reporting abnormalities and concerns.
Comply with company policies, procedures and industry requirements relating to safety and animal welfare, including Rules of Racing.

Criteria:
Sound horse handling skills, with experience and confidence handling young thoroughbreds in full training.
Confident, experienced track rider, proven ability to consistently ride paced/timed work with a willingness and confidence to ride young horse.
Practical understanding of horse health care and welfare requirements, with prior experience providing direct daily care.
Understanding of thoroughbred racing industry and operations, with understanding of racing stable operations.
Experience handling and riding young colts is desired.
