Equine Academy – Certificate II in Racing Industry

The racing industry provides a breadth of career opportunities for young people and can take you close to home or as far away abroad as you wish.
The Australian Industry Trade College has partnered with Tier 1 racecourses and turf clubs to develop a bespoke Equine Academy program run out of our Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba schools.
The tailored program is designed to educate young people to become apprentices and trainees of the highest calibre, specifically for the equine and racing industry. In fact, several of our Equine Academy students have already taken the reins and started their school-based apprenticeship.
A little-known fact: You don’t have to choose between finishing school and starting your career. We are currently enrolling Year 10 and 11 students who are interested in gaining a head start in the equine and racing industry, while completing senior school.

Internationally recognised by major sectors of the horse industry, the Advanced Diploma of Equine Business Management aims to equip students with the practical husbandry and business skills necessary for a successful career in their chosen field. The intensive one-year Advanced Diploma of Equine Business Management is structured equally into three broad areas: practical and horse management skills, equine science and business management.
Developed in close consultation with industry, students are exposed to a diverse range of prominent leaders specialising in riding, training and management techniques, business philosophies, industry views, marketing strategies and administrative practices. To ensure students have obtained essential horse management skills, all students participate in horse handling and have the option to elect the riding stream.
Marcus Oldham lecturers are supported by a range of specialist guest lecturers throughout the course. Equally important is the further opportunity and insight students obtain from outside the College grounds. An exciting international study tour and a four-week industry training program are both a feature of the course and allow students to visit and work with prominent industry leaders and enterprises in both Australia and New Zealand.

The Silverdale Academy Equine Leadership Program is specifically designed for those working within managerial positions in the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry. It targets employees that are currently managing a team in their workplace, and wish to further enhance their skillset.
Run by TAFE NSW, the course is a three day workshop with a maximum of 12 students per class. The courses are interactive with role play and industry based case studies to enhance the leadership style learning. Students will come away with a Statement of Attainment in Leadership with subjects that can be accredited to further qualifications in a Leadership Diploma

The FBAA Mentorship Program will provide aspiring bloodstock agents with a professional development experience by giving them an opportunity to shadow an FBAA member in a part-time capacity for two months. The mentorship will combine practical office-based placements, agent shadowing at the sales as well as remote learning.
The mentorship program will support the FBAA Strategic Plan to create definitive and formal pathways into the bloodstock industry as well as fostering education and encouraging best practice.

Scone Equine Group is Australia’s largest provider of equine veterinary services with expertise in all areas of horse care across its’ specialist subsidiary practices of Scone Equine Hospital, Avenel Equine Hospital, Equine Podiatry & Lameness Centre, Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre.
Scone Equine Hospital offers 12 month rotating internships for veterinary graduates, with successful applicants starting either in February or August of each year. This internship program has rotations across the various areas of Scone Equine Group with the opportunity to gain experience and skills in foal and adult medicine, assisted reproduction, surgery, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, performance horse lameness and podiatry, stud medicine, racetrack practice and general equine practice. Our aim is to enable interns to gain a broad exposure to equine practice to give the best opportunity to be prepared for an ongoing career in equine practice.
Rotating interns will be:
- Supported by a large team of senior veterinarians and specialists
- Involved with a large and diverse caseload across all areas of equine general practice
- Supervised and supported by a senior veterinarian for on call duties
- Offered furnished accommodation assistance
- Supplied a car with associated expenses covered
- Provided membership of AVA/EVA by SEH
- Supplied and asked for feedback from regularly scheduled mentor meetings

TBA Stud Start
Thoroughbred Breeders Australia | Statement Of Attainment | 6 Weeks

Stud Start provides an opportunity for people wanting a career change who are interested in pursuing a job in the thoroughbred breeding industry.
It is a six-week program that begins with online learning and finishes with a week-long intensive teaching block in Scone, NSW. All tuition costs are covered for successful applicants.
During the week in Scone students will take part in practical, hands-on learning with horses, as well as classroom teaching. Other activities include farm visits, hearing from expert speakers and a careers night where trainees will learn about the different roles in breeding.
Stud Start involves formal study and trainees will complete three accredited units from the Certificate III in Horse Breeding. All participants who finish Stud Start will have the opportunity to continue studying the other units in the Certificate III and receive a formal qualification.
The aim of the program is to provide those taking part with the basic skills and knowledge to start their journey in the industry’s workforce and also provide connections to help trainees find their first job.
