Assistant Manager – Yearling Prep

Assisting the Farm Manager and the Yearling Manager to prepare yearlings for the Premier Sale in the first instance and then assisting with weaning and preparing weanlings for the mid-year sales in 2026. More specifically this will involve handling, grooming, walking and observing the thoroughbreds; assisting the farrier, chiropractor, brander and the vets; assisting with the physical conditioning of foals, weanlings and yearlings including hand walking; training the yearlings – including de-sensitising, lunging, learning to walk & turn on a lead; training the yearlings to stand for conformation assessment and photographs; training the yearlings to parade for pre-sale inspections and videos/photographs. This is an assistant position so you do not have to be an expert – professional support, supervision and advice will be provided by senior farm staff.

Leading Victorian thoroughbred farm requires an Assistant Manager - Yearling Prep to assist with the preparation of yearlings for the 2026 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and then weanlings for the sales year. This position is a step up from general Stud Hand and would suit someone with experience looking to expand on their skills and knowledge. We are a smaller farm which offers the right candidate the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of sales prep.

Previous experience preparing yearlings and weanlings for sale would be a big advantage. Some previous experience working with thoroughbred yearlings and weanlings is essential.
