Job Description
An exceptional opportunity has arisen at Alma Vale Thoroughbreds for a talented, driven individual to step into a key senior leadership position as our Assistant Stud Manager.
This is a dynamic, hands-on, working management role. Working closely with our upper management team, you will be an integral part of our leadership group, overseeing daily operations and leading a dedicated team by example. This position offers excellent scope for professional growth, allowing you to work with high-quality bloodstock across all divisions, including mares, foals, and yearlings.
Job Responsibilities
• Daily Farm Operations: Overseeing paddock checks, feed runs, and handling stock safely and efficiently during routine crush work.
• Veterinary & Reproductive Care: Working closely with our broodmare manager and attending veterinarians to assist with daily vet lists, reproductive work, and scanning.
• Staff Management: Effectively managing staff routines, organizing daily farm duties, and fostering a safe, productive team environment.
• Sales Preparation & Attendance: Managing the preparation of drafts (weanlings, yearlings, and mares) and attending major bloodstock sales.
• Treatments & Record Keeping: Effectively administering treatments and ensuring precise, punctual record-keeping (treatment sheets, vaccinations, and deworming protocols).
• Farrier & Growth Management: Coordinating routine farrier lists and growth management schedules for all growing stock.
• Foal Development & Conformation: Conducting regular conformation checks to determine timing and requirements for corrective surgical procedures.
Job Requirements
• Elite Horsemanship: Strong, confident handling skills across all stock classes, with the ability to safely manage large groups during intensive vet and farrier work.
• Leadership & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage, motivate, and organize staff.
• Operational Efficiency: Exceptional time-management skills, problem-solving abilities, and an eye for detail on the farm.
• Professionalism: The ability to liaise confidently and professionally with clients, vets, and suppliers via email and telephone.
