Job Description
Yulong Stud is offering an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Foaling Unit Manager for the 2025 breeding season.
As the Foaling Unit Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of our foaling unit and be responsible for the care and management of all pre and post foaling mares, ensuring the safe and successful delivery of newborn foals. You will lead a team of dedicated and passionate equine professionals, working together to achieve the highest standards of care.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage the foaling unit and all aspects of care for broodmares pre and post foaling.
• Monitoring mares for signs of foaling, assisting with deliveries, and providing comprehensive pre- and post-natal care, including timely interventions when required.
• Ability to administer medications (intravenous and intramuscular injections, oral medications and fluid therapy) to all stock under Veterinary care.
• Monitor the health and well-being of mares and foals, making critical decisions in conjunction with management in high-pressure situations.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all foaling activity, including births, treatments, and care provided.
• Oversee the cleanliness and organisation of foaling stables, paddocks, and related equipment.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and other specialist personnel to manage the health needs of mares and foals.
• Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring they adhere to best practices and safety standards, inductions and training if necessary.
• Work closely with the Stud Manager and other departments to ensure the success of the overall operation.
Job Requirements
• Minimum experience of one year managing a foaling unit, including overseeing the care of mares and delivery of foals.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with experience managing a team.
• Ability to make critical decisions in high-pressure situations, with a strong focus on safety and welfare.
• A high level of attention to detail, with strong organisational and time-management skills.
• A calm and confident demeanor, particularly in emergency situations.
• A clean driver’s license and eligibility to work in Australia.
This is a full-time, on-going position, shared accommodation, and an attractive salary package are available to the successful candidate dependent on experience.
