Groom wanted for small Eventing Yard

Looking for a groom/yard assistant to work in a small team at a boutique eventing yard 2 hours south of Sydney.

Position will involve working with horses ranging from established Eventers to foals and assisting the yard manager and competition groom.
The role will involved keeping the place running while the performance horses are away at competitions. So an ability to work unsupervised and know how to administer general equine first aid is essential.

We are looking for someone who is responsible, hard working, capable and competent around horses, tidy and fun and LOVES dogs and cats. Some riding may be available but is not guaranteed. There is potential for the right candidate can bring their own horse.

Wallaby Hill hosts a couple of competitions and jump clubs a year, so applicant must be willing to pitch in and help.

The job meets the requirements for 2nd year extensions for Work Holiday Visas. Job does not include ticket to Australia. Job has 2 week trial period.

The job is a 5 days a week; but will include a couple of weekends a month. The position is live and accommodation is part of the package.

- Daily feeding and feed preparation, including individual feeds, supplements and medications
- Daily checking horses and monitoring their general health, behaviour and wellbeing, noticing swellings, cuts, lost shoes and lamenesses.
- Daily rugging and un-rugging according to weather conditions
- Catching, bringing in, grooming & tacking up. Untacking, cooling down and hosing off, washing, re-rugging and returning to paddock.
- Administering medications and routine treatments as directed, plus bandaging, poulticing, icing and other routine horse-care treatments
- Rehab work using therapeutic equipment and a water walker, so sound equine musculoskeletal knowledge is a plus.
- Assisting vets, farriers, dentists and other equine professionals, keeping record and notes.
- Insure a clean and organised stables, yard, tack room, feed room and other horse areas.
- Clean tack and gear after use and return to pegs and place after use.

- Keep smaller paddocks poo picked
- Stay on top of laundry, including rugs, saddle pads, boots, bandages, towels and other equipment
- Be able to work independently, use initiative and recognise jobs that need doing without requiring constant direction

Applicant must:
- Have a full driving license & car
- Be competent with quad bikes and other forms of light machinery.
- Be tidy and proactive
- Package include accommodation in a 3 bedroom shared flat, which is also shared by 2 cats. Applicant must be willing to share accommodation and like cats.
