Horse Trainer/Yearlings

Yulong is seeking a highly motivated and adaptive individual to join our growing team as a full-time Horse Trainer/Yearlings.

Yulong is comprised of four farms in Victoria, all of which are an easy drive to Melbourne. The breeding side of the operation, Yulong Stud and Yulong Farm, are located in the beautiful wine region of Nagambie. Whilst the Spelling Farm, Yulong Park, located in Bayles, is a short drive to the Mornington Peninsula. Our Yulong Pre-Training Centre is located at Whiteheads.

Yulong is a rapidly expanding operation which currently has 700 broodmares, 350 foals, 11 stallions and over 200 horses in training.

Horse Trainer/Yearlings
Duties will include:

o Training and preparing horses for major sales
o Educating horses to be groomed and accept bridle, head collar, rug etc.
o Teaching horses to walk, stand and parade correctly
o Parade and caring for horses at sales
o Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
o Re-educating horses to resolve problems such as biting and kicking
o Overseeing/training breeding mares and weanlings when required

The salary will be above award – in the range of $75,000 to $78,000 per annum depending upon the skill set and level of responsibility.

Essential Skills:

All applicants must have a minimum of 3-years full time professional experience in the role or a relevant qualification and at least 2 years full time professional experience in the role.
In addition, the following will be required:
• Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred breeding
• Proven ability to train and educate young horses
• Proven as reliable workers, with excellent horsemanship skills
• Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
