Industry Policy Coordinator

Job Description
Reporting to the Industry Policy Manager, this role supports the development, review and
implementation of rules of racing and industry-related policies, procedures and guidelines across the
three codes of racing.
This role assists with research, drafting, consultation, stakeholder communication, implementation
materials and coordination and implementation support for rules and policy matters, including
support for the RQ Rules and Policy Panel and related industry engagement processes.
Job Responsibilities
• Supporting RQ in creating, updating, and delivery of industry policies, procedures,
guidelines, and rules of racing across the three codes.
• Supporting the RQ Rules and Policy Panel by assisting with agendas, papers,
recommendations, action items, implementation documentation and follow-up actions.
• Assisting with research, evaluation and benchmarking of rules, policies, procedures and
regulatory models from Queensland, interstate and international racing jurisdictions.
• Assisting with consultation processes for proposed rule changes and policy initiatives,
including preparing consultation materials, stakeholder notices, explanatory documents and
summaries of feedback.
• Monitoring and responding to the policy inbox across the three codes.
• Assisting with consultation with industry participants and stakeholders to gather feedback,
identify issues and support informed policy, procedure and guideline development.
• Participating in relevant industry, internal and cross-functional meetings, including preparing
notes, minutes, action items and follow-up documentation.
• Supporting the delivery of RQ’s rules and policy positions through clear internal guidance,
explanatory materials and implementation support.
• Preparing and contribute to briefing notes, reports, implementation plans, correspondence,
policy documents and Board or executive papers as required.
• Working with relevant policy owners to coordinate the review and update of policies,
procedures and guidelines in accordance with scheduled review dates.
Stakeholder Objectives
• Coordinating with internal RQ stakeholders to ensure rules, policy and implementation work
properly considers operational impacts, compliance requirements and business needs.
• Liaising and consulting with the Racing team members and other business units as required
to ensure efficient outcomes across the organisation.
• Collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure diverse views and opinions are
obtained and considered across all policy/procedure/rule and related tasks.
• Contributing to effective communication strategies with both internal and external
stakeholders to achieve shared knowledge and insights of policies/procedures/rules and
related projects, and their deliverables.

Job Requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing
correspondence, briefing notes, reports, consultation materials, policies, procedures or rules
in a regulated environment.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake research, analysis and benchmarking to support
evidence-based policy and rule development.
• Ability to coordinate consultation, document feedback and communicate clearly with
internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience supporting projects or policy matters involving multiple stakeholders, operational
considerations and implementation requirements.
• Ability to identify risks, issues and practical implementation considerations and escalate
matters appropriately.
• Sound judgement, tact and professionalism when dealing with sensitive, complex or
contested matters.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, organise work effectively and maintain accurate
records and project documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in drafting, reviewing and
maintaining documents.
• Knowledge and understanding of the racing industry, or similar regulated sectors, is
desirable.
Qualifications
• A tertiary qualification in law, policy, business or a related field; or
• Commensurate demonstrated experience in a similar role.
Special Requirements and Working Conditions
• May be required to work on weekends and extended hours when reasonably required.
• Must hold a current driver’s licence.
• Intrastate travel may be required.
• May be required to undergo a criminal history check.
• Must have the right to work in Australia.
