Job Description
An exciting opportunity exists for a capable and enthusiastic horse person to join our team for the upcoming breeding season, with the potential for ongoing long term employment in yearling preparation and stud operations.
Located in the beautiful South West Slopes of NSW, our family owned thoroughbred breeding, cattle and farming enterprise of productive rolling country between Young, Harden and Boorowa.
This role would particularly suit an experienced young horse person looking to build on valuable breeding and foaling experience while living and working on a large thoroughbred farm.
We are seeking a hardworking and reliable individual who is very experienced with horses and keen to expand their skills within a professional and supportive breeding operation.
The Role:
The successful applicant will join our rotating foaling team, assisting with:
Monitoring mares during foaling season;
Assisting with foalings and neonatal care;
Handling mares and foals;
Stable and barn duties;
Record keeping and general stud duties;
Working within a busy team roster.
FOAL WATCH SHIFT TIMES:
Tuesday 4pm – 10pm
Wednesday 4pm – 10pm
Thursday 4pm – 10pm
Friday 4pm – 10pm
Saturday 9pm – 6am (one hour break)
Sunday 10pm – 7am (one hour break)
Monday (Night Off)
Applicants must be confident handling horses independently and have a solid understanding of horse behaviour and safe horse husbandry practices.
Long Term Opportunity – This role offers the opportunity to remain with the business after the breeding season. For the right applicant, ongoing employment may include:
Yearling sale preparation
Daily handling, grooming and education of young stock
Feeding and barn duties
Paddock feed runs, medications and treatments
Assisting with veterinary and farrier procedures
General stud duties
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
Extensive horse handling experience, especially with broodmares and foals
Excellent horse husbandry skills
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Honest, mature, reliable and willing to learn
Current driver’s licence
Commit fully without holidays to the end of the foaling season (minimum to end of November 2026)
Comfortable on farm accommodation is available, including private accommodation with modern amenities and Wi-Fi. Accommodation is best suited to a single occupant.
