Senior Stud Hand/Assistant Manager

Mogumber Park is a busy boutique thoroughbred stud located in Bullsbrook, 40 mins NE of Perth CBD and 25 minutes from the coast. Mogumber Park is also home to Olive Grove Equine Clinic, a dedication reproduction practice servicing both on farm needs and local studs.
Home to approximately 30 resident mares, and standing two popular stallions, Mogumber Park is looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic and eager to learn experienced stud hand, who is looking to transition into a management role. They would be required to work as part of, and lead, a small but dedicated team, looking after the horses’ best interests and welfare.

To take a leading role in all aspects of the smooth and safe running of the farm. Undertaking daily duties such as feeding/watering and checking of all stock, as well as planning for, and assisting with, farrier and veterinary work. During the season, the applicant would be expected to gain experience handling the stallions (if no previously experience), assist with foaling down and the early education of all foals, as well as co-ordinate mare movements for veterinary work.

Mogumber Park generally prepares 15-20 yearlings for the Perth MM sale and the applicant would be expected to take a leading role in the preparation of the yearlings.

Ideally, the ability to undertake fencing and irrigation repairs as required.

Mentorship and training will be provided by the owners as required.

The successful applicant must be absolutely hands on and possess excellent communication, time management and organisational skills with experience in all facets of a thoroughbred stud, including:
• Strong Horse handling skills especially with foals, weanlings and yearlings.
• Breeding season knowledge of reproduction and ability to work closely with veterinarians, farriers and management.
• Knowledge and ability to identify and treat (under veterinary guidance)a variety of ailments and injuries.
• Covering Barn experience preferred.
• Experience in fencing/reticulation would be viewed favourably.
• Competent record keeping skills for horse movements, treatments and activities.
• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and safe operation of equipment relevant to the handling, movement and preparation of stock.
