Bowness Stud and Watershed Farm (near Young, NSW) require an experienced and confident horse handler of young thoroughbred horses, to start on the 10th December 2024.
The role involves yearling sale preparation (teaching young unbroken thoroughbred horses to walk out and stand for sale parades), grooming, washing, feeding, medicating, cleaning yards and stables plus checking horses wellbeing. Must show previous experience with horses and references on resume. An honest, hardworking and enthusiastic team player preferred.

About you:
• Experience with racehorses is highly regarded but training can be provided for someone with horse experience.

Gardeners

Cressfield is boutique Thoroughbred Stud farm, with large areas of manicured lawns, tree lanes and gardens.
Due to the incredible growing season we are experiencing we are seeking gardeners to help maintain the property’s lawns, gardens, lane-ways and native landscapes.
Reporting to the Head gardener, the applicants will need to be physically fit for a physical role, have an attention to detail and be able to work outside in the elements. Prior knowledge or experience with zero turn lawnmowers, brush cutters and tractors would be an advantage however on the job training will be provided.
Enthusiasm, a good work ethic and attention to detail will be highly regarded.

• Jockey – Rides horses in competitive races, race trials, and in exercise at the stable in Scone NSW. This occupation requires high levels of physical fitness, sporting ability and personal commitment as well as, or in place of, formal qualifications or experience. Registration or licensing is required.
The salary will be above award – in the range of $70,000 to $75,000 per annum depending upon the level of responsibility.

Essential Skills:

• Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing
• Proven ability to train and educate young horses
• Where appropriate ability to pre-train young horses
• Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction and provide information
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
• Proven as reliable workers, with excellent horsemanship skills

• Horse Trainer/Rider – able to ride 8 -10 horses per morning with ability to ride pace/timed work as well as educate horses through barriers.
• Young Horse Trainer/Rider – as above Horse Trainer/Rider above, plus demonstrated ability to manage client communication and training systems designed to track the horses in training.
The salary will be above award – in the range of $70,000 to $80,000 per annum plus super and staff incentive schemes.

In addition, the following will be required:

• Ability to work in a team and independently (or proven management experience if the position is for a foreperson role)
• Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
In addition, the suitable applicant will need to demonstrate that they are proven as reliable workers, with excellent horsemanship skills.
