About the Role

The properties are located 5 to 6 kms from the town of Bathurst (population in excess of 40,000 people). The Owner has a vacancy to join the team to assist in the ongoing operation and maintenance of the stud property.
Reporting to the Owner, the successful applicant will have at least 2 years’ experience in the agricultural sector, and will be proficient in the following areas:
• Horse knowledge and handling skills
• Have experience handling thoroughbred and standardbred horses.
• Operation of farm machinery
• Property maintenance and repairs. i.e. infrastructure, fencing, weed management and pasture management
• General maintenance
• Be reliable and punctual
Possession of a chemical user’s certificate and/or truck licence will be viewed favourably. A driver’s licence is essential.
The successful applicant will be proactive and forward thinking with the ability to work unsupervised while taking responsibility for the outcomes of their work. They will work closely with the owner and staff to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
This position would suit a young energetic horseman to further their horse skills in horse breeding including foaling down, weaning and handling of foals, yearling preparation for sales and day to day operation of a horse spelling property. Forge On Park has a position available for a senior team leader – foreperson to join our spelling and pre training centre. Located in Coolup Western Australia (One hour south of Perth) Forge On Park has been in operation for more than fourteen years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will assist the farm owner – manager and work with and alongside our farm staff.
When needed be required to liaise with clients, float companies, vet’s, farriers, feed merchants etc.
Comply with farm policies and procedures relating to safety and animal welfare.
At various times be able to competently manage all facets of the farm, in the absence of the owner.
CRITERIA
Possess strong and confident horse handling skills with experience in handling horses of various education levels. From broodmares and foals to racehorses, there is no horse back riding involved.
Have an excellent understanding of horse health care and welfare requirements.
Be confident to administer day to day horse treatments and recognise signs of injury or ill health .
Possess good communication skills be able to take instruction and positively pass on instructions, to staff in a constructive and appropriate manner. And importantly lead by example.
A history of employment as a senior staff member within a racing stable, breeding farm, or similar would be an advantage, all equestrian related applicants will be considered.
Experience in general property repairs and maintenance and the use of general farm equipment to carry out these duties would also be advantageous.
We are seeking a passionate horse person that is reliable, fit and hardworking, you must be flexible have a positive attitude, good work ethic, and be willing to pitch in with all stable and farm duties along with being able to work independently.
Hold a current driver’s license, with a preparedness to work out of hours if required and some weekends. (Rostered weekends are typically two weekends off and one on)
REMUNERATION – OVERVIEW
The position requires the successful applicant to live on the farm in the accommodation supplied, the position is a permanent role.
Annual salary $100,000 plus superannuation.
